PRINCE HARRY turns 35 today – but Kate Middleton and Prince William caused a birthday controversy when they sent a message on Meghan Markle’s birthday last month.
Prince Harry is set to celebrate turning 35 with his wife Meghan Markle today. The Duchess of Sussex recently marked her birthday, too, as she turned 38 in August. While Harry and Meghan landed themselves in hot water over their use of private jet flights, which they used for a birthday trip to Ibiza, Kate Middleton and Prince William also caused controversy on the Duchess of Sussex’s birthday.
Podcast ‘Royals’, from Australian magazine New Idea, heard from royal expert Angela Mollard on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Instagram post.
Ms Mollard said: “Of course, Kate and William also had to put up a message, because of course you have to reciprocate.
“There’s been a lot of criticism, though, about the photograph that Kate and William decided to post.
“Now, it was a picture from Christmas of the four of them together, when they were laughing and smiling, and a lovely message of happy birthday to the Duchess of Sussex.
“People have become outraged about this because it’s not just a picture of Meghan.
“But it would be more weird, I think, if they did post just a picture of Meghan?”
However, Ms Mollard gave her opinion on another controversial aspect of the Instagram post.
She said: “What is interesting, is that it is an old photograph.
“We haven’t got a new, up-to-date picture of the four of them together.
“You know, it’s Christmas, and we’re now in August.
“Normal people would post a picture of a Sunday night barbecue, where they’ve all got a gin and tonic, laughing uproariously, and say, happy birthday sis, wouldn’t they?
“It suggests, I think, that they possibly don’t get together that much.
“I think, you know, it was an appropriate picture with the four of them in it.
“I don’t know why they’re getting so criticised for that.
As is say, I would have loved to have seen something a little bit more impromptu and spontaneous, smelting from behind the scenes.
“I mean, Kate’s a great photographer, we know that, you would have thought that she’d take pictures together with the four of them.
“But, maybe not, maybe they don’t see each other that much.”
Noting that the Cambridge and Sussex families have been at the centre of royal rift rumours, Ms Mollard also advised that Prince Harry should seek to mend his relationship with his brother.
She said: “I think I’m being realistic in saying it’s hard enough for ordinary people to sustain marriages.
“In the public eye, as [Harry and Meghan] are, and under such intense scrutiny – I really, really hope that they have the ballast and the support there.
“If Harry does have any sense, he will rely on William and that relationship will be repaired going forward.
